About Us

JKA stands for Japan Karate Association, the world’s largest and most sought after karate organization since its establishment in 1949. Our mission is to promote the soul and spirit of the art of karate as the Keeper of Karate’s Highest Tradition. With a growing membership in over 100 countries worldwide, JKA is the only legal karate entity officially recognized by the Japanese government as an association of members for the promotion of karate. In line with the tradition of Bushido (the way of the samurai), JKA continues to enrich the lives of its members in character, mind and spirit.

JKA Karate is based on three basic fundamentals – kihon (basics), kata (form) and kumite (sparring). Each is taught in its original and most powerful form. This is how JKA produces the strongest karatekas in the world.

JKA Karate teaches a student to be peaceful. Our dojo kun reminds us to:

            1. Seek Perfection of Character

            1. Be Faithful

            1. Endeavor

            1. Respect Others

            1. Refrain from Violent Behavior

All of which are numbered 1 and are given the same value. A JKA Karateka does not boast showy demonstrations nor the points earned in tournaments. A JKA Karateka has kime (focus) and constantly learns about the harmony between the mind and body. A true karateka does not engage in fights or brawls but if conflict is unavoidable, JKA Karate dictates taking down an opponent with a single blow.

Because of strong roots and foundations, JKA Masters base every lesson technique in solid, scientific physical movement and theory. Experience allowed them to refine and improve every single detail that mattered in the improvement of techniques.

Our Family

JKA Hawaii is composed of an ohana that looks after each other in and out of the dojo. We emphasize not only in developing the students’ flexibility, stamina and strength through practical self-defense applications and exercises, but most importantly we aim to Seek Perfection of Character. Karate is an art that requires humility, perseverance and discipline. These are essential skills a student will learn in order to excel in the martial art and most importantly, to excel in life outside the dojo.

We practice shotokan style of karate in the same language and tradition our forefathers has kept over the years. With JKA karate education, you are guaranteed to learn genuine shotokan karate in its purest and truest fundamentals.

Our classes are composed of students as young as three years old, to professionals such as doctors and lawyers. Coming from different parts of the world that convened in Hawaii with diverse backgrounds and experiences, JKA Hawaii students leave the fast-paced demands of daily routine once they put on their gi for every karate class.

The benefits of karate are immensely substantial. Parents of young students are more enthusiastic as they see the improvement and drive of their children. Students learn the meaning of obedience and respect. Our young students will grow up strong and confident with an outlook in life ready to overcome challenges and obstacles.
